Background
Trained as a Graphic Designer in the late 1960s, I was taught to draw and acquired an understanding of different techniques and how they suit various subject matter. At that time I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to study under a number of very talented illustrators and they extended my interest in developing an individual style that would have a commercial application. Being colour-blind, has given me better tonal sight than people with normal colour vision. So I have, over the intervening years, found a method which suites my abilities. Instead of balancing one colour against another to create an image, I visually translate it into differing tones created by texture or weight of line in black and white. This is quite a time consuming process but the effect has proved to be successful.
